We are currently exploring Marcus Borg’s book, Reading the Bible Again —for the First Time. Professor Borg opens this book by addressing the question — “Why did ancient Israel tell these stories, and why did the tell them this way. He raises the same questions in his chapters about the early Christian writings.

 

We began this series on March 14th, and have as many as 21 in attendance. To date, read have covered the first 6 chapters. These chapters included discussions about the creation stories, the enslavement of the people of Israel by the Egyptians, the Exodus and the giving of the Covenant, and the journey to the Promised Land. We have recently begun discussing the writings of the prophets.
